Creativity without bounds: Emma gives our words the wings they need to soar

Emma Sparks is a lifelong creative who values “having a giggle” and “being a goofball” - endearing qualities that have seen her fit right in with our warm bunch.

As a Visual Storyteller, she ensures everything we create at EBA looks the part. From crafting social media assets for clients and producing slide decks for presentations to hatching ideas for promotional merch, Emma does it all. Her favourite thing about her role? Flexing her creative muscles and turning words on a page into something beautiful.

“Everyone at EBA is so talented at telling stories, whether they’re writing content, crafting employee value propositions, or directing video shoots. I want to use visual design to give them the platform they deserve - to send their story as far as it can go.”

Crafting the perfect career

Emma has always known she would pursue a career in a creative field. Deciding exactly what that would be was a little more complicated. She’s tried her hand at beauty therapy, fashion, store merchandising, and worked front of house at a salon. She’s also been modelling since high school, and has an even more extensive list of crafty hobbies (and our office has the bedazzled mascots to prove it!).

While at the salon, Emma realised she wasn’t fulfilling her passion. With the help of a self-imposed deadline, she charted a new course.

“I gave myself a week to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. There’s nothing like a bit of pressure to make a quick decision! Someone suggested graphic design, but I didn’t really know what that was. I went on YouTube and looked up every video I could find - what different paths you could take, what an average day looked like. I knew it was the career change I was looking for.”

Emma enrolled in a graphic design course, studying two nights per week at a campus across the road from the salon. Once she was qualified, she continued working at the salon while she set up her own freelance businesses. Never one to give less than 110%, Emma started offering photography services and surface pattern design, and set up three online stores.

A few years later, while in her reception and design role at a multi-family office, Emma started taking pottery classes as another creative outlet. She soon befriended one of the other talented creatives in her class - our very own Senior Strategist Kirsten.

“The work I was doing was fine, but I wanted a team culture where I fit in. I wanted to hang out with people who were creative inside and outside of work… preferably people who always have a craft project on the go! Obviously, EBA was the place for me. Creativity is in our veins, and we’re the perfect blend of professional and fun.”

We grow as we go

During her interview process, Emma was sent examples of our work and knew straight away that this was the kind of thing she wanted to do. Since joining the team in June 2023, she’s immersed herself in the business and is keen to learn everything she can about the creative side of employer branding.

“People here are genuinely interested in helping me do what I want to do. That’s been revolutionary. I thought I would have to prove myself to be allowed to attend things like video shoots, but I was trusted straight away. In my first few weeks, I was able to photograph one of our events. We have a value about being able to jump because there are parachutes everywhere - I’ve found that to be very true.”

We’ve always been confident in Emma’s ability to produce fantastic work, and we’re glad she’s developing that confidence in herself, too. For this creative soul, the sky’s the limit, and we can’t wait to see her grow alongside our team.
